Re: Well it's about time ....

Hendrick cars have won 2 races this year and both have been due to fuel mileage. So take away the luck and HMS would be sitting winless with nearly half the season gone.... Amazing. Good to see Jr. get a win though!

And Carl's success I think was due to his team being the first to discover "crabbing" (cars tracking sideways). Since everyone else figured that out and then Nascar put their foot down, he has not been dominant like he was.

Kyle Busch has been the man this year though and he will be holding the trophy at the end of the year before Jr. or Carl will. Friends or no friends, he has enough talent to get the job done.

"Crabbing" has been going on for years. Carl's car hasn't changed any, and neither has anyone else's. Jeff Gordon complained saying it was jutted too far out, and Nascar ruled that it wasn't.

I know it has been going on for years but it has been much worse this year.

NASCAR cracks down on crab cars
Posted by Doug Demmons -- The Birmingham News May 22, 2008 1:24 PM
NASCAR apparently figured they had seen enough of cars going sideways down straightaways. From Carl Edwards to Sam Hornish Jr. teams figured out that if they push the rear axle out of line with the front end it would make the car stick out on one side -- thus the crabwalking analogy. That improves sideforce on the car which improves handling.

It also made it difficult to get the wheels of the cars to fit on the scales during inspection. So a memo got drafted.

Sprint Cup Series Director John Darby said the new rule, which allows teams a maximum of 1 degree of toe, still allows engineers to play with the rear steer of the car. He said 98 percent of the teams were at the 1 degree limit, and the rest were at 2 degrees.
"When it goes to the point where basically the teams are going to throw out millions of dollars of inventory and replace it with millions of dollars of new inventory, that's too far," Darby said.

So now I guess we'll see if Carl Edwards' early season success was due more to his driving skills or his rear axle.

Since that article, he has finished 9, 2, 9, and 7th. Not too bad huh? His cars were all meeting inspection, so it wasn't a problem.

No, I wasn't saying he was cheating or anything, he was perfectly legal. But I do believe that is the reason he was so dominant in those races he won. A lot of the other drivers were talking about how much more "sideways" his car was and like you said, Jeffy cried about it not surprisingly. But after that everyone started going to extremes with it and Carl hasn't dominated like that since. He's still running good like you said and he will win more races this year for sure.

Every driver out there will push the envelope as much as possible, thats just the way the sport works...

I have a personal friend that drove a busch car for two years, he told me straight up, there is not one single legal car on any nascar track any weekend...It's all about who can get away with the most....
